Chapter JC of PEO International, Sequim, will have its eighth bazaar from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in the foyer of Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave. in Sequim.
Shoppers will find an array of handcrafted gifts and home-baked goods at the bazaar including fabric pumpkins, Christmas decorations, cards, sturdy toys, plant caddies and more.
In addition to gift items and baked goods, the bazaar will feature gently used books, games, and puzzles and a raffle. The Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club of Sequim donated three one-of-a-kind items for the raffle: a quilted Christmas stocking, a 36-inch-square Christmas quilt and a 36-inch by 45-inch crib quilt. The Christmas stocking is stuffed to the brim with useful gifts for the holidays. Raffle tickets are $1.
They are available now from Chapter JC members and they also will be on sale at the bazaar before the drawing.
Three winning tickets will be drawn at 1 p.m. Nov. 5 at the bazaar. The winner need not be present.
Chapter JC hosts the annual bazaar to raise funds for PEO, a Philanthropic Educational Organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants awards, loans and stewardship of Cottey College; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
The chapter nominated Jaycee Thompson-Porrazzo, for a STAR Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for exceptional high school senior women in the United States and Canada to attend an accredited post-secondary educational institution in the United States or Canada in the next academic year.
Thompson-Porrazzo will receive her diploma from Sequim High School and her associate degree from Peninsula College in June. She hopes to attend Olympic College in Bremerton to become a certified physical therapist assistant.
In addition to her academic achievements, she is captain of the Sequim High School swim team, is active in her church and has worked at Fyzical Therapy and Balance Centers of Sequim for two years. Because she is the STAR candidate, Chapter JC will give her $500 for books and supplies whether or not she receives the national award.
Thompson-Porrazzo is one of only six students to receive a Telephone Pioneers Scholarship, a $1,000 award for children and grandchildren of telephone employees; her grandfather worked for General Telephone, which is now owned by Verizon, for more than 25 years.
Chapter JC is one of 13 PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) chapters on the Olympic Peninsula. PEO has been a pioneering force for women’s education since 1869. PEO makes a difference in women’s lives with six philanthropies that include ownership of Cottey College for women (Nevada, Mo.) and five programs that provide higher educational assistance through grants, loans and scholarships. Today PEO has more than 238,000 members in the United States and Canada.
