Some local photographers look to help you move on from a tough 2020 by offering their work in calendars for next year.
Ross Hamilton, Jan Kepley and Keith Ross continue their tradition of making calendars with their recent and popular pictures and selling them through their websites and local stores.
Olympic Peninsula 2021 by Ross Hamilton
Available at multiple retail locations across the peninsula and www.rosshamiltonphotography.com
Cost: $19.99
The calendar features scenic photos from Hamilton’s catalogue including Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent, Purple Haze Lavender Farm and more.
Hamilton spent four decades traveling the peninsula snapping dynamic shots of landscapes, which he shares along with the area’s seasons in his annual calendar. With help from his wife Kathy and collaborator Sandy Frankfurth, Hamilton produces the calendar from his vast photo collection despite losing his vision in 2000.
He comes from a long-line of Hamiltons in Sequim and moved to the area in 1969 following his parents after graduating from UCLA with a Master’s in marketing. He became a full-time photographer in the mid-1990s. His parents gave him his first camera at age 9, and in 1966 he studied one summer under Ansel Adams’ Yosemite studio.

Jan Kepley’s work has been on display throughout Sequim in several venues as he snaps “the specialness of the most common,” he said in a previous interview.
Much of his work focuses on his efforts peering over green patches and scenic views hours at a time looking for metaphors through shots that capture him.
“I prefer the metaphors,” he said. “I photograph them to say something else, but not every photo is that.”
Kepley said he prefers to wait for the right photo at the right time and it’s common for him to lie level with a subject for hours at a time. He finds it’s better for photographers to take something that’s meaningful from their photos rather than taking hundreds of photos with less consequence.
Kepley and his wife Kay moved to the Sequim area in 1980 from Northeastern Oregon and transitioned to full-time photography shortly thereafter. Their online shop also offers greeting cards, prints and more of Kepley’s work.

Ross gained national attention last year after snapping photos of two baby eagles, or eaglets, being rescued in Dungeness. He was featured on national news sites and in children’s classrooms across the country in “Scholastic News.”
He’s been working on a children’s book told from the perspective of the baby eagles, who he named Eddie and Elliott.
Ross owns and operates Keith’s Frame of Mind with his wife Kryztyna, serves as the official photographer for the Sequim Irrigation Festival, and sells commercial fuel and lubricants across the nation. Along with calendars, his website features puzzles, prints, coloring books and more of his work.
