The Unity Church of Port Townsend to welcomes the greater community to come celebrate the 20th anniversary of Rev. Pam Douglas-Smith being the minister at Unity.
The celebration will include the 11 a.m. Sunday Service followed by a potluck party with a cake on Sunday, Sept. 17. There will be a decorated box for individuals to give Douglas-Smith cards, letters and other offerings in honor of her service.
Unity Church of Port Townsend is at 3918 San Juan Ave., directly across from Blue Heron Middle School.
Douglas-Smith came to Port Townsend with her husband Lane in March 2003 when Unity was meeting on Sundays at the Masonic Hall. Since then, Unity has bought and created the Unity Spiritual Enrichment Center which offers services, workshops, concerts and hosts numerous meditation groups.
According to church representatives, inspired by her disabled brother, Douglas-Smith was called to a life of service. She began her career as a special education teacher for the multi-handicapped deaf then became a registered nurse who specialized in rehabilitation for adults and children with severe chronic and acute conditions.
She was the assistant to the national director of a Case Management company when she trained as a volunteer chaplain at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. This lead to a calling to the ministry and she went to Unity Village to the ministerial program where she graduated with high honors on a scholarship.
During her 20 years in Port Townsend, Douglas-Smith had lead pilgrimages on St. Francis and St. Claire in Italy, on the Mystical Cathars and Path of the Magdalene in France, and on the Celtic Grail Quest in England, Wales and Scotland. She also lead a 10-day spiritual retreat on the holy isle of Iona in Scotland. Douglas-Smith was a speaker at Jimmy Twyman’s conference on the Psychic Children where she spoke on Chalices of Light.
She has also written the “Living End” column for years in the Living on the Peninsula magazine.
