Radio program to shine light on domestic violence

Daryl Trowbridge, with Healthy Families of Clallam County, will present “Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” a WOW! Working on Wellness Radio Forum set for 2-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, on KSQM 91.5 FM.

This presentation will address the importance of communities engaging in regular conversations about healthy relationships, domestic violence and the social attitudes that promote intimate partner violence.

Trowbridge will discuss how to help victims of domestic violence and will help us be willing to speak up when we become aware of domestic violence happening.

Domestic violence, program organizers note, doesn’t begin with physical harm; it starts with emotional abuse which is driven by the desire and need for power and control, which then creates the cycle and continuum of abuse.

Trowbridge is a domestic violence and sexual assault victim advocate and the prevention specialist with Healthy families of Clallam County. Having survived and recovered from childhood abuse, trauma and nearly non-existent self-esteem, he now has a passion for serving those impacted by intimate partner violence and sexual harm.

As prevention specialist, he visits Clallam County communities and shares information — mostly in school settings— that will help prevent listeners from experiencing or perpetrating intimate partner violence or sexual harm.

WOW! Working on Wellness is a health education program of Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic — Sequim’s free clinic. The clinic provides basic urgent care and chronic health care services to uninsured community members. The clinic’s work is supported by more than seventy volunteers, including physicians, other professional health care providers, and laypersons, as well as private and public donations from the Sequim community and beyond.

The Basic Urgent Care Clinic is open to patients on Mondays and Thursdays beginning at 5 p.m. Individuals interested in supporting the clinic may call 360-582-0218.
