After an 18-month hiatus, Readers Theatre Plus is back on the boards in its new home at the Fifth Avenue, 500 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim. Its upcoming production of “A Nice Family Gathering,” written by Phil Olson, is “very funny with a lot of humor,” said director Janice Parks. “It’s about the first family Thanksgiving get-together at Mom’s with her two sons and daughter, daughter-in-law and neighbor since Dad died — but Dad, who comes back to ask a favor, is only visible to son Carl.”
The staged reading, with entrances and exits, will be at 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Nov. 11-12 and Nov. 18-19; and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13 and Nov. 20. Cast members are Clare Hatler as Mom, Pat Owens as Dad, Rick Munhall as Carl, Rich Hendricksen as Michael, AJ Hitchcock as Jill, Rebecca Horst at Stacy, D.P. Brandt as Jerry and Kath Beecher as Mrs. Enquist. Jeff Clinton is the production manager.
Tickets are $10 in advance at Sequim Spice & Tea and $12 at the door. The site is fully ADA accessible. All proceeds from this show go to Puppy Pilots, one of many nonprofits that Readers Theatre Plus has supported in its 10-year history. The group also gives scholarships to Sequim and Port Angeles seniors going into the arts.
“I think everybody can relate to the play,” Parks said. “There always are undercurrents when families gather with the added thing of Dad creating extra problems. There are lots of great dynamics.”
