Clallam County 4-H is joining Jefferson County 4-H, Kitsap County 4-H, San Juan County 4-H and Whatcom County 4-H to offer the We Connect Global Citizenship project for youths of ages 13-18.
This virtual project will be held from 4-5 p.m. every other Tuesday over Zoom beginning Jan. 26 and running through late May.
We Connect Global Citizenship is a project where teens get to explore how to think globally while acting locally. Objectives include increased intercultural and interpersonal communication skills, and gaining a better understanding of yourself and who you are in relation to others. Zoom sessions will be interactive and will allow plenty of opportunity for teens to connect with other teens in all five counties.
Those interested are encouraged to attend an informational Zoom from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5; register at tinyurl.com/y6hbcld8.
We Connect is free to teens already enrolled in 4-H; the enrollment fee for Clallam County 4-H is $25, and scholarships are available. Space is limited.
Know Your Government conference
Clallam County 4-H, Jefferson County 4-H and Kitsap County 4-H are coordinating to form a team for this year’s Know Your Government conference.
Normally only for high schoolers, this year will be open to youths in grades 7-12. Pre-conference meetings will be held over Zoom on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, Jan. 7, culminating in a virtual conference over President’s Day Weekend.
Registration for the first meeting is tinyurl.com/yx93jtgc. Registration fee for Know Your Government was reduced to $40 this year because the conference is being held virtually.
Know Your Government is WSU 4-H’s annual civics program. Working on a four-year cycle, the program rotates topics between the judicial system, the legislative system, politics and the media and elections.
This year, program organizers are working on the judicial system with the theme “The Judicial System – Unmasked.” The conference will include five pre-conference meetings on Thursday nights learning about the court system both in Washington state and nationally while interacting with participants from Clallam, Jefferson and Kitsap counties. Over President’s Day weekend (Feb 13-14), the group will join other participants from across the state to host a mock trial.
