Register now for Reach for Hospice events

Registration is open now for Sequim Bay Yacht Club’s “Reach & Row for Hospice,” the annual series of races that benefits Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County’s respite care fund.

Sept. 13 is the pre-registration deadline for the 5-kilometer Sept. 14 rowing and paddling race in Sequim Bay open to individuals and teams in shells, rowboats, canoes, kayaks, rowboats, paddleboards and inflatables — any craft that can be rowed or paddled.

Participants can pre-register online at webscorer.com/register?raceid=342520 for $30 per racer ($25 for club members) or in person between 6:30-7:15 a.m. on race day, in the south parking lot of John Wayne Marina.

Race day registration fees are $60 for the general public, $50 for yacht club members. All fees are paid with cash or checks payable to VHOCC (no plastic, no electronic payments).

Sept. 21 is the sailing regatta, also in Sequim Bay, that welcomes single and multi-hull boats of any size. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. on race day in the Sequim Bay Yacht Club clubroom in the marina building. The registration fee is a minimum of $50 per boat, with all funds going directly to VHOCC. Skippers compete both on the water and informally for funds raised. For more information, visit sequimbayyacht.club/hospice-sailing.

Established as a sailing regatta in 1991, Reach & Row for Hospice is the yacht club’s only philanthropy, a year-long series of events including races, raffle and dessert auction.

The fund drive, which over the decades has raised more than $511,000 for VHOCC, culminates each year with the raffle drawing in December at the club’s Change of Watch ceremony.

Formed in 1976, the Sequim Bay Yacht Club include informative monthly meetings open to the public, the learn-to-row and learn-to-sail courses for adults offered each spring, early morning rowing sessions, and sailing races most Thursdays through November. Boat ownership is not a membership requirement.
