The Sequim City Band invites the community to its annual Independence Day Celebration, starting at 3 p.m. Friday, July 4, at the James Center for the Performing Arts.

This is the band’s most popular concert and for good reason, band members say, with patriotic music of all kinds on tap. Directed by Tyler Benedict, the band is slated to perform “America The Beautiful” by Samuel Ward, “American Flourish” by Robert Smith, the “National Emblem March” by E.E. Bagley and its tribute to servicemen and women of the audience, the “Armed Forces Salute.”

As a special treat this year, the Sequim City Band performs Tschaikowsky’s “1812 Overture.”

The announcer for this concert is veteran community actor and writer Paul Martin.

The Sequim Rotary sells hot dogs and drinks at the James Center from 1:30 p.m. on. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, sunglasses and hat. Children are welcome and encouraged.

As always, the Sequim City Band performances are free of charge. The band is composed of about 70 volunteers from high school age to post-retirement ages. They perform monthly during the summer at the James Center for the Performing Arts in Sequim near the Water Reuse Demonstration Site, north of Carrie Blake Park.

There are additional concerts in March, October and and a Winter Holiday Concert as well.
