The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce is assembling the nomination packets for the Citizen of the Year committee for their review mid-February, with community members nominating eight candidates for the area’s top civic award.

“We are so excited to see so many nominations this year,” executive director Beth Pratt said.

“We were worried toward the end of January, but our nominators submitted eight candidates of the last days of the nomination window.”

Sequim’s Citizen of the Year award, begun in 1968, is unique on the Olympic Peninsula. Only former winners of the award are given a vote in choosing both the finalists and the winner of the award.

“It is a unique group of amazing citizens of the Dungeness Valley,” Pratt said.

Finalists will be chosen on Friday, Feb. 16, and the final results will be announced on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at a luncheon event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and held at The Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road.
