Members of the Sequim Community Christmas Chorus say they’ve got the perfect experience to start your Christmas season. Their 32nd annual Christmas Concert takes place over three shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, and 3 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 3-4, at Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane (Information in the “2016 Holiday Traditions” special section listed earlier start times).
“We encourage people to start their Christmas seasons here,” said chorus board member Jackie Dawley.
She and dozens of other music lovers make up the chorus from professional singers to first-year chorus members.
“It’s one of the reasons I keep participating because I want people to keep singing and having music in their lives,” Dawley said.
Chorus members began singing the carols and tunes in September with direction by Gary McRoberts and Cynthia Webster who joined as piano accompanist this year.
For the 32nd show, McRoberts and the chorus board selected a variety of sacred Christmas music to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Some of this year’s shows feature hymns such as “Deo Gloria,” “Who’s That Little Baby” and an arrangement of “Silent Night” along with local audience favorites “Hallelujah Chorus” and “Peace, Peace” with John Zuerner on oboe. Audience members will be asked to join in for traditional carols, too. McRoberts also plays piano and arranged music for the Deka Trio with Marlene Moore on cello and Penelope Linterman on violin.
Soloists include Stephanie Clark, Vienna Barron and Stacey Fradkin.
Tickets are $5 each and available at Bauer Interior Design, the Sequim-Dungeness Chamber of Commerce, and Forage in Sequim and Elliott’s Antique Emporium in Port Angeles. Children 12 under are free. Tickets available at the show door for a suggested $5.
A portion of proceeds benefits Sequim Community Orchestra’s Sequim school strings program. Last year the chorus donated $700 to Sequim Community Aid and the Shipley Center.
