Sequim City Band closes 20th season

The Sequim City Band gives the final concert of its 20th anniversary season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the Sequim High School auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave. As always, the concert is free.

The band opens with a special arrangement of "The Star Spangled Banner" by the Sequim High School Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of John Lorentzen.

Jim Dries and Carol Swarbrick Dries are announcers for a program which includes "Rolling Thunder," a fast-paced "screamer" by Henry Fillmore; an arrangement of "Amazing Grace" by Frank Ticheli commissioned by John Whitehall in memory of his father; and Mozart’s "Concert Rondo" for French horn with soloist Robert Nathan, who performs with the Port Angeles Symphony.

Classics continue with "Variations on Themes by Tchaikovsky," Sousa’s "Bullets and Bayonets," and a traditional Spanish piece, "La Virgen de la Macarena."

Show business takes over with selections from "Jersey Boys" and "Les Miserables" and Henry Mancini’s "Pie in the Face Polka."

Last on the program is V.I. Agapkin’s “The Slavic Women’s Farewell,” a Russian patriotic march written in honor of the Slavic women accompanying their husbands in the first Balkan War.
