Sequim’s First Friday Art Walk returns with health, safety guidelines

The First Friday Art Walk Sequim returns this month while at the same time respecting COVID health and wellness guidelines of masks, social distancing and limited capacity.

Special events highlight the color theme of white and the while visible spectrum on Friday, June 4.

“Please enjoy the arts and culture of Sequim safely,” organizer Renne Emiko Brock says. “We are starting out small. Not all venues are open fully with the slow start of the return of the evening activities of Sequim Art Walk, so please visit them when they are open.”

White, Emiko Brock notes, represents “inclusive acceptance, hope, open minds, optimistic opportunities, pure and thoughtful actions, friendly impressions and blank canvases that are receptive to any positive vision.”

She adds, “Because white is actually all the colors of the rainbow, multi-color enchantment is demonstrated by the wearing of bright tie dyes, revolutionary white, and fairy wings. The spreading validating pixie dust is encouraged! It is a chance to dress in white and rainbow colors to be magical, shiny, and show off every color of the visible spectrum.”

First Friday Art Walk Sequim is a fun, free, self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim from 5-8 p.m. the first Friday of every month. Visit SequimArtWalk.com to download and print a map, find special events, links and how to be part of art.

Initiated in 2006, the Art Walk is an encouraging and educational arts event sponsored and produced by Emiko Brock with a mission to create approachable, accessible art and cultural venues that encourage the community to connect and celebrate expression and diversity.

Special events

Sequim Museum & Arts, 544 N. Sequim Ave., is hosting an exhibition of the North Olympic Watercolorists. Participating artists include Beverly Beighle, Lyn Conlan, Alice Crapo, Barb Falk-Diekfuss, Melissa Doyel, Connie Drysdale, Jim Gift, Mary Hughes, Roger Huntley, Judy Larimore, Allyn Lawson, Cecilia Olivera-Hillway, Shirley Rudolf, Randy Washburne, Carol Wilhelm and John Wilkinson.

Their opening reception is 4-8 p.m., with masks required; admittance is limited to 100 people at a time.

Sequim Museum & Arts will also feature local author Katherine Vollenweider, who will be signing her book. The museum will be previewing several new exhibits. The new Veterans Display honors all men and women who served in the armed forces. New artifacts are on display at the Logging Exhibit, and there is a sneak preview of the upcoming exhibit designed to take visitors on an engaging journey from the time of mastodons through early Sequim.

That Takes The Cake, 171 W. Washington St., is open until 6 p.m. and the perfect place to start a stroll with a sweet cupcake.

Sequim Spice and Tea, 139 W. Washington St., is open until 8 p.m. with creative tea blends, colorful and fun teapots and cups and many more culinary gifts.

Forage Gifts & Northwest Treasures, 121 W Washington St., will be hosting local author Bonnie Louise Gillis for a book signing. Copies of her book “Lavender” are available at the shop.

Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., is open until 8 p.m. with award-winning, artfully-crafted wines and appetizing tidbits.
