HELEN HALLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Clallam County Master Gardeners visited Ms. Kinsey’s class to talk with students about how seeds grow. Their lesson tied in with the second grade’s unit about life cycles. After the lesson, Master Gardeners helped students plant five different seeds that they get to take home and plant in their own garden.

Helen Haller’s Parent-Teacher Organization flower sales are due Friday, April 20.

SEQUIM MIDDLE SCHOOL

Middle School science teacher Joe Landoni would once again like to showcase seventh-grade students as science “Catalysts” — this time for Term 3.

Catalysts are those students who regularly display an exceptional level of participation in their science class. They are the kings and queens of questioning, making those thought-provoking statements, which extend understanding. They are the instigators of inquiry! They are risk-takers, not afraid of making mistakes or failing (as they know mistakes and failure lead to new knowledge.) They are the sparks which ignite learning!

Please recognize and celebrate the following fine young scientists: First period’s Colton Cosio, Keaton King and Jenn Slater; second period’s Hannah Bates, Nia Haley and Espn Judd; fourth period’s Cannon Cummins, Logan Endicott and Anna Gowdy; fifth period’s Anastasia Updike and Jonas Welch; and sixth period’s Jonathan Bowden, Jenna Finley, Justice Johnson and Juan Torres.

Students were recognized in their respective classes and each received a certificate suitable for display on any refrigerator. Keep up the fantastic effort, young scientists. You are excellent role models for your peers.

Student-led conferences at Sequim Middle School are set for April 19-20. Families will have the opportunity to review courses selected during student conferences with Wolfpack teacher. Melee Vander Velde (last names A-F), Erin Fox (last names G-N) and Steve Erickson (last names O-Z) from the SHS counseling department will be on hand at the middle school for scheduling questions and concerns.

SEQUIM HIGH SCHOOL

Maggie Clark of Maggie May’s Espresso & Outfitter recently visited the Culinary Arts class at Sequim High School. Students learned about the food truck industry, what an owner is looking for in an employee, menu concepts and business philosophy. Students also took a tour of the food truck!

Yearbooks are on sale through April 27. They will be available for purchase in the main office for $60.

For seniors: Sign up for flamingo flocking in the main office — look for the flamingos! This is a large fundraiser for the Senior Party. Flocking has already started and goes through June 2.

For students in Advanced Placement classes: The high school is completing a pre-administration session for AP students this year. The session will be conducted at 8 a.m. Monday, April 23, in the cafeteria. Attendance is mandatory; those not able to attend must schedule a time to meet with Melee Vander Velde individually to complete the pre-administration activities.

Also: Students cannot make up AP exams. They can only take their test on the pre-determined date and time stipulated by College Board. Testing schedules can be found in the counseling office.
