HELEN HALLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Pam Fries, author of “Something’s Eating the Garden,” led a step-by-step painting project with Tiffany Malean’s and Kerry Ladd’s students and their mothers. She also read her book to the students and gave each student a signed copy!

Students enjoyed Fun Day Friday in Mrs. Riley’s class. They learned about wind power and layers of the soil. Thanks to Toysmith’s generous donation, students were able to construct small scale wind turbines that could light up a small LED. After constructing the turbines from Toysmith, students took them outside and observed the power of the wind. Students then celebrated Arbor Day by planting a seed of their choice. They also constructed the various layers of the soil using crushed Oreos (bedrock), yellow cake (subsoil), pudding (clay), chocolate cake (topsoil), sprinkles (humus) and, of course, gummy worms.
