The first Sherlock Holmes Appreciation Assembly will be from 3-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., in the Carver Room.
The Sherlock Holmes Appreciation Assembly is sponsored by the website SherlockCares.com and free to the public. Activities during the event include displays, readings, best and worst lists, online resources, fan videos, art show and fan fiction competition, and more.
Costuming and cosplay (costume role play) from any version of the character (including alternate universes such as BBC’s Sherlock or Steampunk Sherlock) is encouraged and prizes will be awarded.
The event is held in conjunction with the first international Sherlock Holmes Week for fans all around the world to celebrate all things Sherlock Holmes (July 30-Aug. 5).
After 254 films and videos, Sherlock Holmes is the most portrayed human character in literature after Dracula. The stories never have been out of print and, with the character coming into the public domain, there’s been a flurry of new books, films and shows based on the character.
