Soroptimist International of Sequim once again offers its free Tea with S.H.E. (Soroptimist Helping and Empowering) program next week with a presentation called “Aging in Place.”
The event for men and women begins at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 N. Blake Ave., Sequim, with speakers, coffee, tea, cookies and a drawing for items meant to help senior citizens in their homes.
Speakers include:
• Dr. Loraine Lovejoy-Evans, a physical therapist, talking about strategies to reduce pain and increase mobility
• Dr. Monica Dixon, a nutritionist, speaking about eating healthy
• Sgt. Dave Campbell and Officer Randy Kellas with Sequim Police Department talking about “When to Hang up the Keys” with information from transportation providers
• Mark Kaarjalainen, community paramedic for Clallam County Fire District 3, sharing information on supportive services when an older person experiences mobility issues in the home
Linda Klinefelter, president of Soroptimist International of Sequim, said the teas, which typically see about 100 participants, have been on hold since 2020.
“They’re designed to serve the older population and how to keep them in their homes,” she said.
With high costs for caregivers and care facilities, Klinefelter said they’re trying to provide seniors with some supportive services to keep locals healthier late in life.
Previously presentations have been well received, she said, and they welcome feedback for future presentations.
Soroptimist International of Sequim has served the community for more than 75 years and continues to offer scholarships for women, and a medical loan closet. For more information about the group, visit sisequim.org.
