This, Sue Clary says, is a little like Music Live with Lunch transformed into Music Live with Dinner.
True, but this is with a distinctly international feel.
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church hosts the acclaimed Chapel Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge — about 30 miles northeast of London — for a special concert and gourmet dinner at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16.
Tickets are on sale now, available at the church (525 N. Fifth Ave.) between 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Thursday. Tickets are $50 for the gourmet dinner and concert; concert tickets only are $20. There is a limited number of tickets available.
Clary, who volunteers at St. Luke’s, said she received a call one day from Selwyn College choir director Sarah McDonald, asking if the church would host a concert during the choir’s Pacific Northwest tour.
“This is exciting,” Clary says. “I’ve been with the church 40 years. People don’t call from Europe (to do concerts).”
McDonald is a former Victoria, B.C., resident, and was familiar with the Olympic Peninsula, Clary says.
Under McDonald’s direction, the choir has toured internationally and made 15 commercial recordings.
Now, a group of 27 young men and women mostly ranging in age from 19-24, along with three chaperones, are slated to fill St. Luke’s with choir pieces by modern composers, Clary says.
Church members are hosting the choir group overnight.
The choir’s newest album, “The Eternal Ecstasy,” will be available for purchase at the concert. The CD features music by Paul Mealor, Eric Whitacre, Cecelia McDowall and Morten Lauridsen.
The same folks who put on the Music Live with Lunch events at St. Luke’s are doing a gourmet dinner, Clary says.
Sequim is one stop on the Selwyn College choir’s Northwest journey, Other dates include July 15 at Plymouth Church, Seattle (United Church of Christ), July 18 at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria, B.C., and St. James’ Anglican Church in Vancouver, B.C. on July 21.
