‘Spirit’ Soars in Exhibition

Roger Fernandes exhibits his work in the Peninsula College Longhouse through the end of December.

“Proof of Spirit,” a solo exhibit from Roger Fernandes — master storyteller, artist, educator and Lower Elwha Klallam tribal member — is on display in the Peninsula College Longhouse through the end of December.

The goal of the artist is to honor the teachings of ancestors who came before him. He frequently speaks of all those he has learned from, including family members, children, elders, other artists and the many storytellers he has encountered through his long career. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday.

Students and community members will have the opportunity to interact directly with Fernandes on Thursday, Oct. 8. He presents a “Hero’s Journey Storytelling Workshop” from 10:20 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Longhouse at Peninsula College.

The first hour features a presentation from the master storyteller and from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. guests have the opportunity to work directly with Fernandes on projects related to storytelling. All events are free and open to the public.
