On Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m., Sequim High School will host a night dedicated to showing off science, technology, engineering and math — their now-regular STEM Night event.

The last time SHS hosted a STEM Night it was very focused on the work being done at the Marine Sciences Laboratory of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory network. This time it will feature much of the SHS Career and Technical Education department, which has department head Steve Mahitka excited.

“You’ll see drones on display, our video department will be giving example of their work including live green screening and hopefully we’ll have our farm bots to show off by then,” Mahitka said at a Jan. 6 Sequim School Board meeting.

The night will also include a keynote speech from aeronautical engineer Duane Jensen, who has spoken at SHS before and has worked with NASA to build an improved “capture bag system” designed to safely gather and move space debris and even small asteroids.

Food will also be available during the event, and parents as well as students from grades 6-12 are encouraged to attend.
