As a celebration of Women’s History Month in March, the Clallam County League of Women Voters presents three plays by local playwright Rebecca Redshaw that celebrate remarkable women for its “Women of Courage” fundraiser.

Redshaw’s “Lunchtime Temp,” “Hazel Speaks!” and “A Conversation with Hattie McDaniel” play consecutively at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the Port Angeles Playhouse, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Olympic Theatre Arts in Sequim.

‘Hazel Speaks!’

Four seasoned actors — Marianne Trowbridge, Charlotte McElroy, Elizabeth Kelly and Helen Carrick — share the voice of Hazel Wolf in “Hazel Speaks!”

Redshaw adapted the play from Susan Starbuck’s biography “Hazel Wolf, Fighting the Establishment” for these two productions. It traces Wolf’s humor and passion as an activist and community leader who died at age 101 in 2000.

The popular figure was honored by more than 900 friends at her funeral.

Wolf disarmed her audiences with humor and stories while organizing hundreds of environmental projects because of her desire for clean air, water, woods to walk in and plenty of birds to watch.

As a special addition, Starbuck will attend both performances with refreshments and a Q & A afterward for Redshaw and the actors.

‘A Conversation with Hattie McDaniel’

Sequim resident Marie O’Neill portrays the award-winning actress from “Gone with the Wind,” who offers her perspective on life to Kathy, played by Heather Dudley Nollette, at heaven’s gate. McDaniel long blazed a trail years before the Civil Rights Movement and in her conversation she shares a life-changing moment with Kathy.

‘Lunchtime Temp’

Dudley Nollette takes to the stage again as Bobbi in “Lunchtime Temp.” The hard-working woman takes on two jobs with no college degree or extra cash for designer clothes yet holds a good heart, an open mind and a willingness to listen. But Bobbi’s life is changed at her second job, answering phones at a clinic during the noon hour, with one phone call.

Suggested donation is $15. Tickets are available in advance at Port Book and News in Port Angeles and Pacific Mist Books in Sequim. A raffle is offered at the shows for special prizes.

The shows serve as the primary fundraiser for the league to pay for its events and miscellaneous expenses through the year. This is its first fundraiser in three years. For more information, call 681-2787.
