Treating trauma is subject of next WOW! Working on Wellness forum

Dr. Steven Adelman, a licensed clinical psychologist, is the featured speaker at the next WOW! Working on Wellness radio forum, set for 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, KSQM 91.5 FM.

Adelman, who will present “Treating Trauma Issues For Children, Adults and Veterans,” was an officer in the U.S. Army, an experience he said was a great teacher of life and human nature.

While in the military, he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in counselling services. After retiring from the military, he worked as a therapist, primarily with troubled children.

He decided that to really help more, he would need a doctorate, so he studied at Forrest Institute of Psychological Sciences, where he completed his internship and residency, and then his second career as a doctor of psychology began. He had found his niche and began his journey of helping people of all ages navigate mental health and move forward with their lives.

Adelman has now spent 39 years in the mental health field, working with blended families, trauma victims, substance abuse, and child advocacy.

He closed his practice in 2019 and moved to Washington state where, during the pandemic, he began working for Healthy Families, where he works with traumatized children and adults.

WOW! Working on Wellness is a health education program of Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic — Sequim’s free clinic, which provides basic urgent care and chronic health care services to uninsured community members. The Basic Urgent Care Clinic is open to patients on Monday and Thursday evenings beginning at 5 p.m.
