Two Port Townsend authors who have published a variety of fiction present selections from their work as the evening’s featured writers at the next Fourth Friday Readings event.

On April 22, Writers on the Spit hosts the free event, held at The Lodge’s media room, 660 Evergreen Farm Way, Sequim.

Mashaw McGuinnis has a high-tech, complex writing process, according to her blog at www.mcguinnis.com. She finds a room not occupied by her cats, carries in her computer and employs the taped-notes-on-the-wall technique. She has been writing books since she was a child. She contracted Lyme disease nine years ago which interrupted her education and work, but left her lots of time to reexamine her life.

From the comfort of her bed, she read books on creative writing and began publishing memoirs in The Sun magazine, Good Housekeeping and more. McGuinnis is working on a book-length memoir called “Winner’s Circle,” which takes place in the 1980s when she won five TV game shows while most of her family members went to jail, prison and rehab.

Kristy Webster authored “The Gift of an Imaginary Girl: Coco & Other Stories,” a collection of magical reality tales published in 2015. She earned her master’s degree in creative writing from Pacific Lutheran University and her bachelor’s degree from the Evergreen State College where she majored in creative writing, visual arts and feminist studies.

Webster’s work has appeared in several online journals and has been featured in two print anthologies. The award-winning author also is a writing coach and blogger at www.kristywebster.com.

An hour of five-minute open mic readings follow the two speakers. Interested writers should come early to submit their names. For guidelines, contact Rmarcus@olypen.com.

The readings begin at 6:30 p.m., but attendees are encouraged to get there by 6 p.m.; beverages and goodies are available for purchase at the Espresso Bistro.
