Local women are encouraged to clean out their closets and refresh their wardrobes with United Way of Clallam County’s Project 10 Clothing Swap, set for early August.
The event — scheduled for 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Guy Cole Event Center, 144 N. Blake Ave. — aims to bring women together from all walks of life to embrace their personal style and body confidence, organizers say, while helping women access the professional clothing they need to enter or re-enter the workforce.
Participants can register at e.givesmart.com/events/un4 for $10, then donate 10 items that “no longer fit your body, your lifestyle, or your vibe,” organizers say. Then, shop the swap and go home with 10 new items for the wardrobe.
In addition to the 10 donated items, participants are invited to bring up to three dresses (or non-dress full outfits) that would be appropriate for a guest at a formal event such as a wedding or prom.
As a branch of the fundraising element of Project 10, event organizers are accepting designer purses in good condition as well as unopened, luxury self-care items like toiletries, makeup and perfume; gift cards for stores and services, and more for the Packed Purse. The purses will be “packed” with these goodies and raffled off at the end of the clothing swap. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event and you do not need to be present to win.
Those interested can help in other way: donate $10 so someone else can attend; donate a formal item to the Dress Closet; donate a designer purse or specialty item to the Packed Purse Raffle; buy raffle tickets for the Packed Purse Raffle at the event, or become an event sponsor. Contact Development Director Jaycie Wakefield to discuss sponsorship levels and benefits at jaycie@unitedwayclallam.org.
Donations should be clothes and accessories for women that are in good condition (no rips, holes or stains) and that could be work appropriate for work environments ranging from casual to office professional. (The event is not accepting shoes, earrings, undergarments or leggings.)
Drop off donations through July 25 at the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce, 1192 E. Washington St, between 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Saturday, or at United Way of Clallam County, 319 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles, between 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Thursday.
