Marine Don McIntyre — aka Santa Claus — is the recipient of the Marine Corps League Distinguished Citizen Award with a gold medal. The prestigious award was presented to McIntyre “in appreciation and gratitude for meritorious service in the interests of the United States of America, the United States Marine Corps and the Marine Corps League.”
In particular, McIntyre was recognized nationally for his many years of service as Toys for Tots Ambassador in the local community.
At the Marine Corps League State Convention held the first week of June in Spokane, Kathy Nicholls, Marine Gunnery Sgt. (Ret.), was selected Marine of the Year for the State of Washington. Kathy is paymaster for the Mount Olympus Detachment 897 of the Marine Corps League.
Kathy’s nomination, along with 15 other nominations from throughout the state, was voted on at the most recent staff meeting held at the Oxford Suites in Yakima. Her selection was a closely guarded secret until it was announced at the grand banquet at the state convention.
Congratulations to both Marine Don McIntyre and Marine Kathy Nicholls. For more information about the Mount Olympus detachment of the Marine Corps League, contact the Commandant at markisin2day@gmail.com.
