Thanks for boost at Sarge’s

Sarge’s Veteran Support wants to thank all who attended the inaugural fundraiser at the Dungeness River Center. The guests were very generous and helped fund our programs through the live, silent and “raise the paddle” auctions.

We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit providing housing to in need veterans and their families here on the Olympic Peninsula. I am the board president.

We are going to have an open house from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at Minsky Place, our new group home for six disabled veterans in Sequim. Because it is in a neighborhood please go to the former JCPenney’s parking lot (651 W. Washington St.) and get the Big Blue school bus shuttle to the home.

You can check out the house, there will be refreshments and you can learn more about our mission of housing veterans. For more information, please email me at cdrlgilchrist@gmail.com.

Veteran support

For Supportive Services for Veterans and Families the overseeing organization for the Veterans Center has switched to the Opportunity Council. Ross Labrenz is the point of contact at 360-679-6577 x2133.

They can only assist homeless or at risk of becoming homeless veterans currently. If you have a pay or vacate/eviction order they can help you.

Group on hold

As of now the Women’s Veterans Courage group is on hold until more people are enrolled.

If anyone is interested, please reach out to Shelly Huntington at 360-504-3717 or the Veterans Center at 360-797-1791. Women Veterans Day is June 12.

Patriotic murals going up

I hope all are watching with interest the American Legion Hall at 107 E. Prairie St. Jack Grennan Post 62 has commissioned murals to be painted on the south and west walls of the post. They depict various military services activities.

They are hoping to have them completed by the Sequim Irrigation Festival.

Flag Day

Flag Day is Friday, June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

There will be no Flag Day Ceremony at the American Legion Post in Sequim. Please fly your flag!!
