Volunteers help make it a ‘Beautiful Day’

Sequim community members gathered despite the rain on Saturday for Sequim Beautiful Day.

Put on in partnership between Sequim Community Church, Dungeness Community Church, Sequim Valley Foursquare, and Trinity Methodist Church, this marks the event’s eighth annual service event.

Volunteers started at 9 a.m. under cloudy skies, by 10 a.m. spring showers were coming down, but none of this seemed to dampen their spirits, or slow their progress.

“A lot of people love to come out in the Spring and serve,” said Rick Dietzman, associate pastor to adults at Sequim Community Church.

“We’ve had businesses partner with us — the bark and the paint are all donated — [and] we help primarily schools, things like the Boys and Girls Club and other organizations.

“For me it’s just been the motivation to see people come out [and] enjoy doing that together.”

Work sites included Serenity House of Clallam County, Carrie Blake Community Park, the Sequim Post Office and The Boys & Girls Club.

Don Pitkin was busy painting bathrooms at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club Saturday.

“I’ve been here a few times before, I enjoy doing it, and I get a T-shirt,” he said.

Busy putting weeds into a bin at Carrie Blake Community Park, Tina Gray said she volunteers because she loves gardening.

At noon, after several hours of painting, weeding, mulching, and deep cleaning, volunteers were given the opportunity to come together outside of the Boys & Girls Club, where gourmet burgers were being grilled up.
