Woodcock garden ‘walk-about’ set for Aug. 1

Enjoy an educational and relaxing walk with a Master Gardener at Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711, Woodcock Road, for the Master Gardener Foundation of Clallam County’s August “walk about,” set for 10 a.m Thursday, Aug. 1

Attendees meet in the covered pavilion, where they will be given the group’s 2024 event schedule and meet up with their walking tour guide.

The focus this month will be on fruiting trees and small fruits coming into season. The garden’s varieties have expanded to 21-plus apples, four pears, four plums and two varieties of peaches. The “fruit tree team” of Master Gardeners are experimenting with kiwis, fig trees and other surprises as well, organization members say.

A mushroom garden has fruiting bodies ready for production, and the garden’s new wildflower section has something different in bloom each month. The pollinator garden is full of color and pollinators are busy at work.

After the tour, attendees are encouraged to stroll around and speak with the Master Gardeners “who are working to keep this place beautiful for the community’s enjoyment,” Master Gardeners note, or to relax with a lunch at one of the garden’s picnic tables.

The Woodcock Demonstration Garden is a 2.74-acre site in operation for more than 37 year and is open to the public for educational purposes.
