More than 90 dancers ages 3-65 come together to present “The Sleeping Beauty” for two performances this weekend.
The Juan de Fuca Foundation presents the Ballet Workshop’s show at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 25, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave.
Dancers from across the Olympic Peninsula worked 10 weeks on the performance, which features international dancers Hansuke Yamamoto, soloist for the San Francisco Ballet Company; Lauren Ostrander of the National Ballet of Canada; Zac Boresow, student at the San Francisco Ballet School; and Ashley Coupal, a student at the Grand Ballet Vancouver.
Director Kate Long said the guest artists were selected for their “suitability to portray these iconic roles,” and “their incredible technical and artistic acumen.”
Each guest has rehearsed separately and will meet two days before, rehearse with Long in Seattle and travel to Port Angeles the next day to work with local performers.
Tickets range from $15-$35 with youth 14 and under costing $10. Tickets are available at at www.jffa.org, Port Book and News in Port Angeles or Joyful Noise Music in Sequim.
Proceeds benefit the Ballet Workshop’s production fund and student scholarship program.
