40 going on forever

Sequim Senior Activity Center shows a good time

People packed Sequim Senior Activity Center on May 26 for its 40th anniversary party. Nearly 400 attendees participated in events like Wii bowling for the first time, listened to vocalists from the Glee Club and Senior Singers, met creative crafters and artists and signed up to be members.

Many of the ongoing groups had demonstrations going, such as the video game connoisseurs of Wii bowling. Avid bowler Agneta Johnson tied her record of eight strikes in a row during the event and only has been playing a few months.

“I think it’s great fun and I get to meet new people,” she said.

A handful of people put on their best pingpong show. Lloyd Hockett has been playing weekly for seven years at the center. Hockett said he does it for exercise primarily and the social aspect.

“We don’t care who wins or loses,” Hockett said. “It’s good clean fun.”

Steve Solberg, one of the center’s computer technology specialists, spoke to people about their computers and how he could help. Solberg said center members have a range of problems from simple virus protection issues to really complex issues. The center’s computer lab is open during office hours.

Diane Parks, a volunteer and embroiderer, said she stitched on projects during most of the party.

“Coming here is fun,” Parks said. “There’s always interesting conversation.”
