A Day to Remember, Honor

The American Legion hosted ceremonies at Jamestown Cemetery, Dungeness Cemetery and Blue Mountain Cemetery on Memorial Day

Following a joint ceremony by American Legion Post 62 and Sequim VFW Post 4760, Sequim youths Ayden Humphries, 11, and Payton Humphries, 10, took to cleaning the marker of Percival Ball, Pvt. 11th U.S. Volunteer Cavalry (July 10, 1878-July 5, 1947).

The boys’ great-great-grandfather Ward P. Ball, a private in the U.S. Army during World War I, is buried nearby, but the boys’ grandfather, R.T. Ball, noted, “As far as we know, we are not related.”

The American Legion hosted ceremonies at Jamestown Cemetery, Dungeness Cemetery and Blue Mountain Cemetery later that day.
