A momentous Mariner meet-and-greet SLIDESHOW

M’s players share autographs, tips for achieving goals

Some Sequim boys and girls recently met some of Seattle’s best aces.

Pitchers for the Seattle Mariners — Charlie Furbush and Steve Cishek — along with play-by-play announcer Aaron Goldsmith and the Mariner Moose came to Sequim as part of the 2016 Seattle Marines Caravan.

Various players and team media personnel traveled through Washington from Jan. 11-29 making appearances to promote the team’s upcoming season. On Jan. 27, the caravan visited the Sequim Boys & Girls Club after visiting KONP Radio and Poulsbo Elementary School.

Cishek, Furbush, Goldsmith and the Mariner Moose shared the DREAM (drug-free, respect, education, attitude, motivation) Team message for club members and signed pictures, baseball cards, Mariners’ hats and even a skateboard afterward.

Club members like Kyle Sharpe, 10, a big Mariners fan, had several baseball cards with him and Furbush signed his own card for him.

“It was a cool experience,” Kyle said. “I’ve never met a Mariner before.”

Furbush has been with the Mariners since 2011 and posted a 2.08 Earned Run Average last season in 33 games. Cishek signed with the Mariners this off-season and will be their closer with a 2.82 career ERA and 95 total saves in six years.

The Mariners open their season away against the Texas Rangers on April 4 and have their home opener on April 8 against the Oakland Athletics.
