On 03/10/2011, Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Olympic Medical Center to investigate a report of an accidental shooting that occurred in the area of Slab Camp Road, Sequim.
On 03/10/2011, a seventeen year old male from Sequim checked into Olympic Medical Center to seek medical treatment for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his thigh. The male initially told investigators that on 03/09/2011, he was shooting a .22 revolver at in a gravel pit near Slab Camp Road. The male stated that once he dropped the revolver, it accidentally discharged a round through his upper left thigh.
Upon further investigation by Sheriff’s investigators, the male admitted that he had mishandled the firearm and, as a result, accidentally shot a round through his thigh. This admission was corroborated by an examination of the gunshot wound by investigators. No signs of foul play are suspected.
The victim juvenile male is a convicted felon and not allowed to possess or handle firearms. The case will be forwarded to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for criminal charging review.
