All Clallam beaches closed to shellfish harvesting

The Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services’ environment health division has closed shellfish harvesting of all species along the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Cape Flattery east to the Jefferson County line.

The closure includes Sequim Bay, which last week, was open to butter and varnish clams only.

Discovery Bay is also closed to all shellfish harvesting, as are ocean beaches.

County officials made the announcement on Aug. 6.

All species means clams (including geoduck), oysters, mussels and other invertebrates such as the moon snail. All areas are closed for the sport harvest of scallops. The closures do not apply to shrimp, however.
