Starr a star at ‘Waterworks’ exhibit

“Marsh Reflections,” a watercolor painting by Pat Starr of Sequim, was just accepted into the 2016 Northwest Watercolor Society’s Waterworks Exhibition, held in Bothell from Oct. 25-Nov. 25.

The NWWS Waterworks show is an annual exhibition comprised exclusively of artwork created by current NWWS members residing in the United States and Canada.

Starr has been a member of ARTfusion and the Blue Whole Gallery in Sequim as well as the Heatherton Gallery in Port Angeles.

Storytellers visit PC as ‘Forest’ fest preview

Studium Generale welcomes the Storypeople of Clallam County to kick off the Forest Storytelling Festival, an international conference of stories, held on the Peninsula College campus each year. Four local storytellers — Dana Casey, Pat Ferris, Colleen Squire and Cherie Trebon — are featured from 12:35-1:25 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Peninsula College Little Theater, 1502 E. Elks’ fundraiser includes mentalist

The Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, will have a dinner/show fundraiser beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14. Tickets for the dinner are $15; tickets for the show with mentalist Brian Ledbetter at 7:30 p.m. are $10. RSVP for both at 683-2763. Ledbetter’s show combines audience participation, gentle comedy and experiments demonstrating his skills in ESP, mindreading, super memory and telekinesis.

FarmStrong set for Oct. 21 concert at PC

Sequim’s own FarmStrong takes the audience beyond bluegrass during a performance to benefit the Peninsula College Foundation on Oct. 21 at Peninsula College’s Maier Hall, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles. The event kicks off at 7 p.m. with a $10 general admission. FarmStrong is an acoustic music collaboration with Jim Faddis (lead vocals, guitar), Cort Armstrong (vocals, lead guitar), Rick Meade (vocals, dobro) and John Pyles (vocals, bass). LED hits the stage

The Juan De Fuca Foundation presents dance and music troupe LED with artistic director and dancer Lauren Edson at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, 304 E. ‘Housewives to Heroes’ talk set

Gwen Whiting, lead curator and program manager at the Washington State Historical Society, visits the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, to discuss triumphs and troubles experienced by women in 1930s America. Whiting’s free presentation, “From Housewives to Heroes,” is offered as part of the 2016 Clallam County Reads program.

Symphony seeks singers

The Port Angeles Symphony is about to add a choral ensemble. The volunteer community orchestra is seeking about 40 singers for the new symphonic chorus. Auditions begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.

Audition appointments may be made by calling 457-5579 or by email, PASymphony@olypen.com. Drop-ins are welcome as the schedule allows. Experienced singers are encouraged to try out for the ensemble.

Joy Lingerfelt, also the director of the NorthWest Women’s Chorale based in Port Angeles, and collaborative pianist Kristin Quigley Brye will rehearse the chorus on the evenings of Nov. 22 and 29 and Dec. 1, 6 and 8. Rehearsals take place in Port Angeles.

Art workshops begin at library

The Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., begins the Kids Create Art program for ages 7-12 at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, and at 12:30 p.m. for ages 13-21, with Port Gamble S’Klallam graphic artist Jeffrey Veregge.

Youth workshops are the every third Saturday of the month, October-May and are recommended for ages 7-12.

All classes in the series are free, but with class sizes limited, preregistration is required.

Peninsula College hosts popular comedian

Andy Hendrickson, whose newly released comedy CD “Underachiever” debuted in the iTunes Top 40, brings 10 years of performances on television, radio, comedy clubs, festivals and more to the Pirate Union Building stage at Peninsula College for a performance at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21. The show is open to the public, though it features adult content and is not recommended for children.

Admission is free to students and by donation for guests.

Navy band plays PA Library

Navy Band Northwest’s Low Brass Quartet performs at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. The performance takes place during the library’s quarterly Art Blast — a free reception celebrating the opening of the spring Art in the Library show.

Refreshments will be served and limited library services will be available.

Comprised of two trombones, a euphonium and tuba, the Low Brass Quartet repertoire includes many genres, including classical, Dixieland, jazz and contemporary.

SHS choir concert set for Oct. 26

Sequim High School hosts a choir concert, set for 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the SHS auditorium, 533 N. Sequim Ave. Because of several conflicts with sporting events, the date was changed from Oct. 27 to one day prior. Call 582-3600.

OTA to host ‘Phantom Frolics’

Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim, hosts a Haunted Theatre attraction open to the public from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the OTA Center. Presented by the OTA Children’s Theatre Troupe, teams of little “ghost hosts” will be conducting guided tours of the “haunted” theater building, followed by trick-or-treating, games and ghoulish concessions. Admission is $5 at the door; proceeds benefit the OTA Children’s Theatre program offering classes and workshops throughout the year. For more information, see olympictheatrearts.org.

Sequim City Band hosts free ‘Viva Italia!’ concert

The Sequim City Band and special guests present music highlighting Italy at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Port Angeles Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles. Tickets on sale for PC play

Tickets are now on sale for “The Sea is a Restless Whore,” Peninsula College’s fall drama production, slated for performances at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 9, 10, 16 and 17, at the Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., in Port Angeles. The play, written by Brian Boone and directed by Dr. Lara Starcevich, is about five pirates aboard a ship, each harboring a dirty little secret. The Port Angeles Symphony is accepting applications for its 2017 Young Artist Competition and Junior Young Artist Competition.
