Shelly Marie Bartlett loved her family, the outdoors and the Clallam County Fair.

"The bottom line is everybody would have liked to have her as a neighbor," said Larry Rymon, a neighbor on Timberline Drive for the past 12 years.

Bartlett, a 45-year-old Sequim resident, died Sunday, Aug. 16, after a motorcycle on which she was a passenger collided with a car in west Port Angeles.

Bartlett was born in Longview on July 2, 1964, to Art and Diane Crape Johnson. She grew up in Clatskanie, Ore., population 1,600, 47 miles west of Portland.

She graduated from Clatskanie High School in 1982 and moved to Longview where she was self-employed doing house cleaning and lawn work.

Shelly and her then-husband Chris moved to Sequim in 1996, clearing a five-plus acre property along Timberline Drive where they put their house.

Along with helping her son Colten and daughter Kelsey in Future Farmers of America, she also enjoyed gardening, farming, camping and horseback riding, Rymon said.

Bartlett always was involved with the Clallam County Fair.

"Shelly was an active, outdoor lady who enjoyed outdoor sports including motorcycles and horseback riding. She loved horses and animals, was hard working, with a big heart," Rymon said.

She is survived by her son and daughter, her parents, her sister and brother-in-law Sharyl and Casey Hughes, her brother and sister-in-law Doug and Dawn Johnson, five nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Art and Edna Johnson and Frank and Helen Crape.

A memorial potluck will run from 2-6 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Agnew Community Center, 1241 N. Barr Road.

A memorial fund has been set up at First Federal Savings for her children.
