Be extra safe with your Christmas tree, holiday decorations

The winter holiday season can be a dangerous one, if those with Christmas trees aren’t careful.

 

Officials with Clallam County Fire District No. 2 are concerned about fire hazards associated with the holiday season and the increased potential for a tragedy fire. Based on data from the National Fire Protection Association and the U.S. Fire Administration, an estimated 240 home fires involving Christmas trees and another 150 home fires involving holiday lights and other decorative lighting occur each year.

 

Together, these fires result in 21 deaths and $25.2 million in direct property damage.

 

According to Fire Chief Sam Phillips, following a few simple fire safety tips can keep electric lights, candles and the ever-popular Christmas tree from creating a tragedy.
