Beta Nu Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International awarded scholarships to seven local students who are pursuing careers in education.
The seven each received a $1,000 scholarship. The list includes six Sequim High School graduates: Naomi Fosket, Craig Frick, Jenna Hall, Chelsea Hasenpflug, Jaysa Hill and Julie Leaf. Kate Smithson, a Port Angeles High School graduate, also received a scholarship.
In order to be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must be a high school graduate pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in education and a teaching certificate. Recipients of Beta Nu Chapter scholarships must be graduates of a Clallam County high school or Peninsula College.
"We believe that each of these young persons has the desire and ambition to become outstanding teachers. We look forward to their graduation and entry into an exciting, demanding and satisfying career in education," said Sue Clary, president of Beta Nu Chapter.
The scholarships are made possible by donations from members, including the Helen Gariepy Fund. Interest on the earnings of the fund is made available for grants.
