No injuries were reported after a barn caught fire up Blue Mountain Road on Monday afternoon.

Battalion Chief Chris Turner with Clallam County Fire District 3 said fire crews were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 to the 4000 block of Blue Mountain Road in Port Angeles to a fully involved barn fire.

The homeowner reported the fire, Turner said, and as many as 20 career and volunteer firefighters responded to a home about 5 miles south of U.S. Highway 101.

The barn’s contents were heavily damaged from smoke and heat, including an airplane, old pickup trucks, a tractor, engines, tools and more, he said.

The structure suffered significant fire damage in the front corner and most all of the contents were a total loss due to massive heat and smoke damage, district officials said in a press release.

fire watch crew was posted throughout the night to monitor the situation due to reports of high winds forecasted to begin around midnight.

Mutual aid from Fire District 2 was requested, and they had a medic unit cover Fire District 3’s R Corner station 32 during the fire’s initial attack.

“It was so far up Blue Mountain that it takes a lot of our resources to go up there,” Turner said.

The fire is under investigation.

Olympic Ambulance and Clallam PUD also responded to the incident.
