A tough week on the courts ended on a high note for Sequim’s boys tennis squad.
The Wolves (5-5, 5-5) traveled to North Kitsap (11-0 in the Olympic League, 12-0 overall) on Sept. 26 and lost six varsity matches to one and they lost lost all seven matches on Sept. 28 in Kingston (9-2, 9-2). However, Sequim rebounded to sweep North Mason (1-7, 1-7) at home on Sept. 29.
In North Kitsap, Sequim’s No. 1 doubles team Stephen Prorok and Justin Porter defeated Tyler Meek and Mitch Kunold 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-0.
Sequim’s Damon Little and Tim Porter were the only Wolves to go into more than two sets. They lost the No. 3 doubles match-up 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 to Justus Jagodisnke and Grant Nausid Nicholas.
Against Kingston, Prorok and Porter went three sets 6-1,3-6, 4-6 in a loss to Brett Spencer and Andrew Shaw while No. 2 doubles team Thomas Hughes and Blake Wiker lost 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7 to Liam Young and Ethan Sax. They were Sequim’s only players to go more than two sets.
Back in Sequim against the Bulldogs, Prorok won No. 1 singles while both Justin Porter and Raymond Lam won both No. 2 and 3 singles spots.
In doubles, Wiker and Hughes took No. 1 doubles and Tim Porter and Damon Little No. 2. Sequim’s Paul Jacobsen and Liam Payne won the No. 3 match-up 6-3 in two sets and Jake Ryan and Kevin Meyer won No. 4 in two sets at 6-2.
This week, the Wolves traveled to Bremerton (5-4, 6-5) on Monday, hosted North Kitsap (11-0, 12-0) on Tuesday and travel to Port Angeles (4-6, 4-6) on Friday, Oct. 7.
