Brush fire contained near Blyn

Clallam County Fire District No. 3 responded to a brush fire near East Sequim Bay Road and contained the fire by about 1:30 p.m. on July 25.

Fire District No. 3 was sent out on request of a smoke investigation near East Sequim Bay Road at about 11:20 a.m. The incident was then upgraded to a brush fire where crews found an active fire near Rhapsody Drive in logging slash about a half of an acre in size that was growing and moving toward timber, Fire District No. 3 officials said in a press release.

“Someone reported seeing (smoke) from across the Bay,” said Eric Quitslund, Fire District No. 3 Assistant Chief. “It was on the edge of a clear cut behind some residential areas.”

The fire was contained to less than an acre by 1:30 p.m., Fire District No. 3 officials said, and homes in the area were not in immediate danger but the residences were checked in case the fire grew.

There were no injuries reported, Quitslund said, and the fire was turned over to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) by about 2:30 p.m. DNR officials said the cause of the fire is still unknown but it is under investigation.

Emergency responders that responded to the brush fire include Fire District No. 3 and the Department of Natural Resources, with assistance from East Jefferson Fire & Rescue, Quilcene Fire Department and Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue.
