Cathy Bourm has been selected as the child care director for the Clallam County Family YMCA. Bourm has more than 20 years experience working in child care settings, the past 16 with Olycap’s Head Start program where she was a family educator. Bourm has a degree in early childhood education and has training in communication and leadership. She lives in Sequim with her husband and two children and serves on the Sequim Little League board.

First Step Family Support Center, a United Way agency, was awarded $25,000 from the Norcliffe Foundation in support of its campaign to expand its facility. The agency is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise funds to build a 4,174-square-foot community services facility on the current campus. The expansion will feature a much-needed infant and toddler child care/early learning center, parent meeting and training rooms, a reading resource room, a kitchen and confidential counseling offices. This will substantially increase the agency’s capacity to expand current programs and to initiate new ones that the community has identified as fundamental for supporting and building successful families and children.

Mike Lyckman, Larry Loucks, Patricia Troxler, Rick Gross and Craig Stevenson, of Estes Builders, recently attended the Pacific Coast Building Conference in San Francisco, one of the industry’s largest annual trade show and exhibitions. Clallam Transit System set a new, all-time monthly fixed-route ridership record in July. Total fixed-route ridership was 93,693, compared to 72,092 for the same month one year ago, which is a 29.96-percent increase in ridership. July typically has been the system’s lightest ridership month in the past, according to CTS. From January through July, CTS recorded 588,191 fixed-route transit boardings, an 11.51-percent increase in usage compared to 527,501 boardings from January through July 2007.
