Free water testing and
energy demonstrations planned
Sequim Home Depot offers a Quality Matters event from 10 a.m-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21.
The community is encouraged to bring a sample of tap water for free water testing on site.
Free energy efficiency demonstrations and information about tax credits available for energy efficient homes will be provided.
Drawings for $50 gift cards will be held every half hour.

Giving to the community
For the second time this year, Estes Builders convened its Charitable Contribution Committee members Mike Lyckman, Jo Anne Estes and Patricia Troxler to evaluate the needs of local families and charities for the Estes Builders annual charitable award.
Contributions were awarded to the Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic, United Way of Clallam County and the North Olympic Land Trust.
"It is of heightened importance to support our local community in these tough economic times. These contributions provide us the opportunity to give something back to the community in which we live," said Troxler, quality manager of Estes Builders.
Estes Builders also adopted an employer-matched charitable donation as an employee benefit.

Santa visits Dungeness Kids Co.
Santa Claus visits Dungeness Kids Co., 990 E. Washington St., Sequim, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21.
He will collect new and unwrapped toys for needy children for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots organization.

First Federal accepts food bank donations
First Federal’s annual canned food drive to benefit area food banks takes place the week of Nov. 16-20.
The event culminates with a bake sale at all branches on Friday, Nov. 20.
First Federal operates branches in Port Angeles, Forks, Sequim and Port Townsend.

Publication honored
The Forks Forum newspaper received a runner-up award Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Business of the Year competition among members of the Forks Chamber of Commerce.
The Forum, edited by Chris Cook, is a publication of Olympic View Publishing, publisher of the Sequim Gazette, Living on the Peninsula magazine and Homes-Land magazines that cover the Olympic Peninsula and Whidbey Island.
The top Forks award went to Dazzled by Twilight.
McComb offers wreath-making class
McComb Gardens is offering "Wreath Making in the Greenhouse" Wednesday, Nov. 25, and Friday-Saturday, Nov. 27-28. Individualized instruction is provided as those making wreaths arrive. Welcoming wreaths take about two hours to design. Participants will need to bring one large garbage can of greens. Reservations are required. Call McComb Gardens at 681-2827. The greenhouse is open every Wednesday-Saturday until Christmas.
Henery’s takes orders,
changes hours
Henery’s Garden Center takes orders for poinsettias, wreaths, garlands and centerpieces for business or company parties until Nov. 30.
Centerpieces and wreaths can be made to order as well.
Henery’s Garden Center’s winter hours will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sundays and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday starting the week of Nov. 22.
The nursery will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Surgeon earns certification
Loren Larson, M.D., orthopedic surgeon for Olympic Medical Physicians Orthopaedic Clinic, has earned
his board certification in that specialty.
Larson, a 1993 Port Angeles High School graduate, joined Olympic Medical Physicians in 2007 after completing his fellowship with the Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group in California.
He attended medical school at Oregon Health Sciences University and performed his residency at the University of New Mexico Sciences Center.
He shares the orthopedic clinic with fellow orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dirk Gouge and certified physician assistants Kay O’Neill and Danielle Bullard.
Massage therapist relocates
Massage therapist Kelmie Blake relocated her massage and energy work practice Dragonfly Healing Arts to 1225 E. Front St., Port Angeles.
Blake, a graduate of Donna Eden’s two-year energy medicine certification program, is an advanced energy medicine practitioner and an authorized energy medicine for women instructor.
She offers energy medicine sessions and classes in addition to therapeutic massage for wellness and injury recovery.
