Port Angeles Fine Arts Center presents the Cabinet of Wonders at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Masonic Hall, 622 S. Lincoln St.

"It’s the center’s biggest and most important fundraiser of the year," said director Jake Seniuk. "It supports the center’s operations and programming, which is under increasing duress from the downward pressures of the current economy. Now in its fourth incarnation, the annual not-to-be-missed party brings together great people, sumptuous food, lively entertainment, hot dancing and a terrific auction of unique must-haves."

The title Cabinet of Wonders refers to the curio cabinets of exotic and unique collectibles, which were the forerunners of modern museums, and it has become an enduring concept with which to frame the eclectic components of this soiree.

Each year there is a decorating theme that showcases the creative talents of the Friends of the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center membership, who pour ingenuity and gusto into transforming the classic architecture of the Port Angeles Masonic Hall into a festive theme park.

This year the cabinet takes on an Asian flavor in both its origami-festooned décor and the cuisine provided by Okasan Restaurant. The auctioneer will be Sequim comedian Mike Piper, who will blend levity with opportunity in offering a fabulous line-up of unique collectibles, antiques, trips, gourmet excursions and artworks. There will be dozens of silent auction items, too, to tempt a wide range of tastes and budgets.

The evening culminates on the dance floor with hot licks by the sizzling Jim Hoffman Band that will get you moving and perspiring.
