GREYWOLF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

During Field Day on June 11, all classes competed in an assortment of games, earning tickets as they went. Students gathered in the gym to draw for prizes at the end of the day. We would like to thank our helpful volunteers, parents and staff. A special thanks to Schwan’s for donating popsicle treats for all the kids.

Head custodian Tuat Van "Young" Nguyen, who has provided our school with service above and beyond, and always with a gracious smile, is taking a trip of a lifetime to Southeast Asia to visit friends and relatives in Laos, Vietnam, Korea and a few other countries in that region. This will be his first time back since immigrating to the United States decades ago. As a show of appreciation, staff members contributed more than $700 toward spending money for Mr. Young.

The Colors of War

Black smells like ashes falling after war,

Black looks like a storm coming ahead,

Black sounds like danger in the air,

Black feels like anger exploding inside of you.

Gray sounds like guns firing at an enemy,

Gray feels like being afraid of going to battle,

Gray looks like an enemy charging at you,

Gray smells like dying flesh,

Gray tastes like going to battle for the first time.

Yellow

Yellow is sunshine

Twinkling through the clouds

On to the ground

‘Til the next morning.

Yellow is fireflies

Glistening in the moonlight

Dancing around

Playing

Catch me if you can.

Yellow is a glow of a shirt

In the night

Not even trying

Glowing, glowing

Until the sunlight comes

Through

The window

With the yellow sunlight.

In Your House

In your house while you’re away

ALL and ALL will come to play

Mouse pad helps mouse as a car

While the army toys have a war

During all this shower sprays; it rains, it pours

And in the bathroom there are no more

In the laundry room washer eats shirt

And at the same time jalapeño has a flirt

Fireplace said no! But water says COOL OFF! YOU’RE STARTING TO SIZZLE!

But jalapeño says I’m starting to drizzle!

Then he says I’ve been cut

By the spiny body of flower who says sorry,

I’m a NUT!

So all are partying, all but one … Old Mr. Light Bulb, who says parties are dumb!

So he decides to end this party, but how, but how? No light equals no party, so

LIGHTS OUT!!

In your house when you’re back in

All and all will stay to GRIN… _

White

White is the only color that gives me a little shiver

White looks like fresh ice cubes in the freezer

White feels like paper as you rub your hand across it

White is as tough as a pair of teeth when you’re eating steak

White is a blanket of snow, covering the world on the coldest day

White smells like a freshly painted wall when you’re finally done painting

The Colors of Food

Black smells like my dad’s first burnt burger

Gray looks like an orange that’s been left out for too long.

Brown tastes like stale bread

Red sounds like someone slurping my moldy tomato juice

Blue smells like the fresh scent of moldy cheese

Green sounds like an over-ripe lime hitting the floor

Yellow feels soft like a lemon before it gets hairy

White tastes like milk that’s been left out for too long.

Those are the colors of food!

Food Fight!

Kiwi catapults past Grapefruit with a "splat" against the wall

Orange peels its way through the group of Strawberries

Apple gets bruised

Carrot gets eye-to-eye with Celery

Tomato sets a Cherry bomb on Cucumber

Broccoli fires a shot of Grape with some remaining Cocoa Powder

Last week’s take-out Chinese food steps out while ev-eryone holds their breath

The armies of Peas cross the treacherous Chocolate Milk river

Salsa spices things up

Steak totally "fries" Chicken

Beet beats up Radish

But wait…

The front door opens

Armies of Peas go back to the fridge

Beet takes one more small punch at Radish

Everyone and everything gets back to their spots in the kitchen

Colors

Green in the sour taste of a lime

Black is the color of the never-ending sky

White feels like the soft, cold snow

Blue sounds like the salty waves crashing on the beach

Orange tastes like the sweet juice from an orange

Rainbow of Months

January looks silver and is filled with commitments

February feels pink and is smothered with love

March smells green and grows shamrocks

April sounds red and invites the Easter Bunny

May smells turquoise and leaves flowers for me

June sounds yellow and frees kids from school

July looks purple and is exploding fireworks

August tastes orange and sells lemonade

September feels grey and sits kids back at school desks

October looks black and dresses as something it’s not

November tastes gold and is stuffed with turkey

December feels white and is wrapped with ornaments

Mom, You’re Awesome!

Always there to guide me in the right direction

My games are all I need, other than family and friends

I always have fun

Always away, saving people

You always work, it is never fair

I know I might be expensive

But it’s worth for another laugh

And you cook a lot

At Work!!!

The Garden

White is the color of snow

Burrowing in the ground

Green is the color of the stems

Standing up tall

Red is the petals

Waving in the wind

Yellow is the sun

Gazing down on the earth

Black is the color of thorns

Clinging to a vine

Orange is pollen

Hiding under the petals

By Hannah Patterson

Mother’s Apple Pie

Great and homemade

Straight from the oven!

Take the first big bite

Whipped cream and all!

Cinnamon and hot apple

With dry crust makes me smile!

Then when your plate is plain

The extra is a pain!
