DISTRICT
There is no school on Friday, May 8. This was a snow make-up day built into the school calendar.
The next board meeting is Monday, May 11, in the boardroom. The board will meet in closed executive session beginning at 8:30 a.m. to interview semi-finalists for the superintendent position, with a regular open meeting beginning at 5 p.m. to announce finalists. The agenda, as well as more information about the superintendent search, is available on the district website at www.sequim.k12.wa.us.
The district collaborated with local filmmaker John Gussman to create a recruiting film about our unique area. View the 5-minute video on our website.
HELEN HALLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Teacher Ann Riggs’ third-grade class enjoyed writing short poems about themselves. They included nicknames, things they like to do and how to treat others. Riggs says, “We hope you can tell that we put our hearts into our writing. I have a wonderful class and I am proud of my hard-working students.”

SEQUIM MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Science Department of Sequim Middle School would like to showcase the following students as “Catalysts” for Term 3. A catalyst in a science classroom consistently displays an exceptional level of participation. They are curious and questioning. They ask those thought provoking inquiries which extend understanding.
They are engrossed and engaged. They clearly and accurately share their observations, both verbally and in writing. They are analytical and articulate. Catalysts are the sparks which ignite learning!
In sixth grade, teacher Isabella Morrison celebrates the accomplishments of Jessica German, Emma Sharp, Audrey Bennett, Kate D’Amico, Noah King, Kaydence Hilliard and Caira Taylor. Teacher Steve Koehler recognizes Jayla Julmist, Erik Holtrop, Anna Bell and Abby Garcia.
Teacher Joe Landoni tips his hat to seventh-graders Alissa Lofstrom, Nicholas Charters, Cedar Vickery, Lesae Pfeffer, Payton Sturm, Mike McAleer, Jessica Dietzman, Erin Dwyer, Blaise Beuke, Joshua King and Kristina Mingoy.
For her eighth-graders, teacher Marcia Garrett salutes the efforts of Alec Shingleton. Teacher Debbie Beckett applauds Ben Logan, Madison Withrow, Emily Glenn, Lauren Titterness, and in her Science and Engineering Teams class, Kianna Miller and Bailey Cauffman.
Keep up the fantastic efforts, young scientists! You are excellent role models for your peers.
The Science Department also would like to recognize those hard-working students who find themselves “On-a-Roll.” These students were able to boost their final Term 3 grade at least 10 percentage points, sometimes more, over their Term 2 grade.
Congratulations to sixth-graders Katherine Tucker, Jaylynn Sierra, Steven Lam, Truman Nester, Gavin Aldrich, Kayleb Davis and Zayn Rux.
Congratulations to eighth-graders Brittney Bergman, Derek Fili and Austyn Cox.
The following students were recognized as April Students of the Month: Jarrett Allen, AJ Bracken, Cooper Bryan, Gavin Conway, Chase Demucha, Isabelle Dennis, Brittney Gale, Sierra Gober, Emmanuel Gomez, Jonathan Heintz, Silas Isenberger, Alissa Lofstrom, Matthew McCrossen, Josie Meyer, Tyanne Meyer, Ethan Osborne, Dylan Sanders, Angel Servin, Peter Silliman, Gabrielle Simonson, Patrick Tenneson, Oscar Walchenbach and Hayden Williams.
Teachers made their nominations based on the characteristic of Fairness: Play by the rules, take turns and share, be open-minded; listen to others, don’t take advantage of others, don’t blame others carelessly and treat all people fairly.
