City, Habitat to talk revitalization

Town hall meeting slated for Aug. 26; survey coming to Sequim neighborhoods Sept. 19

The City of Sequim is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to host a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the council chambers of the Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a downtown neighborhood revitalization program. Property owners and residents of the city’s central neighborhoods and interested citizens are encouraged to attend and provide input on neighborhood needs.

Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County has selected the City of Sequim as a premier Neighborhood Revitalization focus location. HFHCC has allocated $5,000 from private donations and fundraising efforts for the Sequim project.

In addition, the Sequim Sunrise Rotary has approved a $3,500 grant which will be matched by the Rotary Foundation District Community Grant totaling $12,000 for the neighborhood revitalization in Sequim.

Typical HFHCC Neighborhood Revitalization projects include weatherization, critical repair and rehabilitation of residential properties. Labor for the projects will come from qualified Neighborhood Revitalization applicants (lending sweat equity to their project), HFHCC volunteers, Sequim Sunrise Rotarians and volunteers from other Sequim community groups that are interested in participating.

Habitat for Humanity will be conducting a “Saturday Survey” from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 19, and will be going door to door in the neighborhoods west of Sequim Avenue between U.S. Highway 101 and Fir Street to evaluate neighborhood needs.
