City of Sequim road crews started early to get ahead of the snowstorm on Wednesday, Feb. 23, by placing de-icer on roads before the morning commute. 

Crews shifted to snow removal in the afternoon utilizing the city’s two plow and gravel trucks.  

Full crew shift changes occur at 4 p.m. with streets being plowed through the night.

At 4 a.m., another crew will take over and  continue plowing as needed on a 24 hour basis.

Snow is expected through midday on Thursday, Feb. 24, and the de-icing truck will be dispatched as needed throughout the rest of the week.

Public Works Director Paul Haines said during heavy snows, crews concentrate on clearing main arterials, such as Washington Street, Sequim Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Third Avenue, overpasses and school routes – when schools are in session – are top priorities.

Haines said the City of Sequim is prepared to operate the road crews on a 24-hour schedule to remove snow from the main roadways.

Remaining city streets will be cleared when the snow stops and main arterials are clear. City limits has 54 miles of city-owned roads and alleyways, in addition to parking lots and sidewalks.

City staff asks citizens help by clearing the sidewalks that adjoin their homes and businesses.
