The Clallam County Genealogical Society hosts its fall seminar — “Restless Americans” — from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave.

The seminar featured presenter is Janet O’Conor Camarata, a graduate of the University of Washington’s Genealogy and Family History Program. Camarata has more than 30 years experience in genealogical research and is active in genealogical education programs throughout Washington.

The morning session, set for 9:30 a.m.-noon, is entitled “The Scots-Irish: Settlers in the Wilderness.” This class is an introduction to the Scots-Irish and the sources available to anyone wanting to research their Scots-Irish roots.

The afternoon session, slated for 12:30-3 p.m., is “Mapping an Ancestor.” Using geography and maps provides visual clues about where, how far and what was nearby. Camarata will show how she located property and solved a family mystery for the George E. Curry family of Ohio and Kansas using these resources.

She also will teach attendees how to identify the appropriate jurisdiction to write to for this type of record.

Costs is $40 for Clallam County Genealogical Society members, $45 for non-members and registrations after Oct. 13 or at the door.
