Clallam County holds special filing period

The Clallam County Auditor’s Office will hold a special three-day filing period later this month for offices receiving no candidate filings during the regular candidate filing period and one recently vacated office.

The special filing period is Tuesday, May 30 through Thursday, June 1. The regular candidate filing period closed Friday, May 19.

The offices open for filing during the special filing period are as follows:

• Cape Flattery School District 401, Director District 1

• Fire District 1, Commissioner Position 2

• Fire District 1, Commissioner Position 5

Anyone wishing to file for one of the offices listed and who meets the qualifications of the office can do so. Any candidate who files during the special filing period cannot withdraw.

These races will appear only on the General Election ballot regardless of the number of candidates who file. The candidate who receives the most votes in the General Election is declared the winner.

Candidates may file online around-the-clock from 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 30 until 4 p.m. Thursday, June 1 via the Clallam County Elections website at www.clallam.net/elections.

Candidates may also file in person from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the special filing period at the Auditor’s Office, 223 E. 4th St., Suite 1, in Port Angeles.

Candidate filing fees, regardless of filing method, must be received by the Auditor’s Office no later than 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 1 to complete the filing process. Payment must be by cash or check, and late payments are not accepted.

If no candidate files for an office during the special filing period, no additional filing period will be opened. The office is deemed lapsed and will not appear on the General Election ballot. The incumbent or person appointed will be up for election at the next election when such positions are voted upon.
