Clallam County’s Public Utility District is switching to a new online billing system and there may be a few proverbial bumps in the road for customers in the coming days.
Effective Nov. 1, Clallam PUD began transition to an online bill payment system called SmartHub. Customers will need to re-register their online account and re-enter their desired auto-payment method, PUD officials said last week.
At SmartHub, customers still will be able to view their bills, sign up for paperless billing and use their debit or credit card for autopay or to make one-time payments. SmartHub also has an app for accessing accounts via a smartphone.
Through the new system, customers will be able to complete autopay or one-time payments from a checking or savings account.
PUD customers also will be able to view all of their PUD accounts, usage and payment history, set up text and/or email alerts, schedule future payments, view weather history.
The PUD will not accept debit or credit card payments through 7:59 a.m., Nov. 7. Beginning at 8 a.m. that day, the PUD will again take credit/debit card payments. At that time, PUD customers may go to www.clallampud.net and re-enroll with either a credit/debit card or savings/checking account via SmartHub.
When customers sign up for paperless billing and enroll in autopay before Dec. 31, using either a debit/credit card or a checking/savings account, their PUD account will receive a one-time $5 bill credit and be entered for a chance to win an iPad Mini.
PUD customer office hours are changing as well. Effective Nov. 7, office hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
The Co-op (Sequim) and Country Aire (Port Angeles) payment offices and the Sekiu office will be closed on Nov. 7-8 as the district transitions to a new software platform. The PUD main office in Carlsborg and the Forks office will be open on those dates.
Customers also will receive a new bill format beginning in November. A sample image of that new format is at www.clallampud.net/customer-improvements.
